March 2nd: (Wild)life drawing

Every so often, if you’re lucky, a Sunday actually feels like a Sunday. I hadn’t experienced one in quite some time, but today had a lovely slow pace. Late this morning I met up with a new friend and spent several hours strolling through the city, eating fresh (still warm!) coconut buns in Chinatown, and gaining important and useful linguistic insights (to be expected of an English teacher). Then I came home, cleaned up a few bits and pieces, and spent the evening at life drawing. Jen and I were the bad kids in the back of the class, passing notes and giggling—but what do you expect? The model really DID look like Dave Grohl. After a few extended poses my mind began to wander, and I realized she also had a woodland creature quality about her, and so these came about. I kind of like them through their creepiness…

They’re all great drawings, although I have to say that, yah, I would have been back there giggling away as well and making all kinds of Foo Fighter references. And I can actually see it in her face now that you mention it.

Dave is a cutie, but I wouldn’t want to be a woman who looked like him… naked. Yep, giggling seems like your only recourse.
Nice drawing though and I like your very original woodland versions too, hee hee. But man, it reminds me, you could never pay me enough to be a life drawing model. Oye!

Oh, I KNOW—I can’t imagine modeling for life drawing. Every time I go I think about that, how people can do it. It’s an amazing thing, when you have a good model they are so comfortable up there—it’s beyond me.
She even had her hair in pigtails, which amped up the Grohl factor even mor. Thank you both for the pass, there was no way to let it slide…
